SmartClip Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 12, 2026

Your clipboard data never leaves your device. SmartClip does not collect, track, or transmit any personal information.

Data Storage

What We Store

SmartClip stores the following data only on your local computer in your Chrome browser's local storage:

  • Clipboard history — Text, HTML, and URLs that you copy
  • Metadata — Timestamps, pin/favorite status, user-defined tags
  • Settings — Your theme preference, keyboard shortcut customizations, paste mode default
  • Storage stats — Total number of items and storage size

Where We Store It

All data is stored in your browser's chrome.storage.local, a secure, isolated storage area managed by Chrome. This storage is:

  • Local to your device — Not synchronized with Google or any cloud service
  • Scoped to SmartClip only — Other extensions cannot access it
  • Encrypted at rest — Protected by Chrome's platform-level security
  • Deleted when you uninstall — Nothing lingers on your device

What We Do NOT Collect

SmartClip explicitly does not collect or transmit:

  • Browsing history — We don't know which websites you visit
  • Identifying information — No user accounts, emails, names, or device IDs
  • Analytics or usage data — No tracking of any kind
  • Unique identifiers — No cookies, local identifiers, or fingerprinting
  • IP address — SmartClip makes no network requests
  • Clipboard contents — To any third party, ever

Network Activity

SmartClip makes no network requests. All processing happens on your device. There are no analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting endpoints.

Data Deletion

You control your data completely:

  • Delete individual items — Select a clip and press Delete or click the trash icon
  • Clear entire history — One click in settings or the status bar
  • Uninstall SmartClip — Automatically deletes all stored data

Because everything is stored on your device, we have no copies to retain. When you delete, your data is gone permanently.

Open Source

SmartClip is open source. You can audit the code, compile from source, and verify our privacy claims independently.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy, we will notify you in the extension before changes take effect and provide a clear summary of what changed.
